Cloud player technology

The IPod was originally developed by the military for information storage. This device trickled down into the public as a device to play music wave files or MP-3 files. Before this device existed the industrialize countries had the walkman. Since the early eighties the Sony Walkman dominated the music industry. The IPod or MP-3 player rekindled the music and education industry through portability. The ability to listen to lectures and music anywhere is the advantage of this device. The demise of this device is the limited capacity, along with its size. With the advances of the Cloud the MP-3 player will become the go the way of the Walkman. Size, storage, and technology will make this device antiquated in the next few years.

  1. Bradley,

I agree, the iPod will be replaced by something smaller and with more storage capacity. The cloud has issues of connectivity…if we keep our music “out there” we need to have access to it. Right now, the iPod allows us to carry our music so connectivity is not an issue. It will be interesting to see what they come up with next.

  2. Bradley, I agree the ability to listen to lectures and music anywhere is an advantage of the iPod but cassette and cd players also offered this convenience. One of Apples’ selling point was that the iPod offered “1,000 song in your pocket”, unlike portable cassette and CD players where you would have to carry along your cd’s and cassettes. Another advantage was digital music players were big and bulky and the iPod offered a small, slim, and light weight device.

  3. Bradley,

I agree with you that cloud player technology is the wave of the future. Connectivity issues do exist with the cloud but I believe that soon those issues will be resolved.
